Tips for the best results in Word.

  • Date formats Use one clear format, such as Oct 25, 2026 (US) or 25/10/2026 (UK), on every receipt.
  • A4 or Letter The files use US Letter. For A4, choose Layout > Size > A4 in Word; the tables resize to the page.
  • Keep tables together Rows are set not to break across pages. Delete unused item rows instead of leaving long empty tables.
  • Print or export Delete the note at the top, then print or choose File > Save As > PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the templates on mobile?

Yes, in the Microsoft Word app for iPhone, iPad and Android, which opens .docx files. Editing tables is easier on a computer. Other apps that open .docx may show the layout slightly differently.

What is the difference between DOCX and DOC?

DOCX is the current Word format, used since Word 2007. These files are .docx only, not the older .doc format. Any recent version of Word opens them.

Do the templates calculate totals automatically?

No. Word tables do not recalculate. Work out each amount and the total yourself and check them before you print. For automatic totals, use the Excel template or the online receipt maker.

Can I change the layout, fonts or colours?

Yes. Everything is ordinary Word text and tables, so you can change fonts, colours, rows and columns.

Can I use these templates for my business?

Yes. They are free to download and edit. Replace the sample details with your own, and check that the receipt meets any rules that apply to you.
